V & A Dundee Shop - Perfect Picks for Christmas

V&A Dundee has been designed to be a ‘living room for the city’, a space for visitors to enjoy and find inspiration. As Scotland’s first design museum, it celebrates the very best of national and international design. Everything in the museum shop, which includes brand new and exclusive collaborations with contemporary Scottish makers and manufacturers, has been specially chosen to showcase the best of contemporary and local design. Over December a special festive range is also on offer, including beautifully illustrated Christmas cards and decorations. Those visiting the museum on the first three Fridays of December between 17.00 and 19.00 for V&A Dundee’s Winter Nights season will receive 10% discount in the shop and a free gift wrapping service.

Hand-folded bauble £12.00  Kate Colin is inspired by origami and geometric forms which she uses to create unique and stunning pieces. Each item is hand-scored, folded and assembled in Kate’s Glasgow studio.  Due to the handmade nature of these baubles, which come in a range of colours, each one is unique with slight differences.

Scottish teacake wooden bauble £4.00  East End Press is a printing and design studio based in the east end of Glasgow founded in 2015 by designer Ellie Hodesdon. These hand screen printed decorations, made of plywood, are laser cut and finished with a coordinating waxed cotton hanging loop.

Kaleidoscope Christmas cards £7.50 for pack of 10 Lesley Barnes is an award-winning illustrator based in Glasgow, her work is distinctive and bright. This unique and fun design was created exclusively for V&A Dundee and has been printed specially for the festive season with a season’s greetings message and matching envelopes within the pack.

Deep as the Snow Christmas card £3.00  Hole in my Pocket, a studio founded by architect and artist Allistair J Burt, produces a range of cards, stationery and homeware featuring humorous illustrations such as this festive card now on sale at V&A Dundee.

Black crest ring £35.00 Lynne MacLachlan is a designer, maker and researcher based in Glasgow. Her designs play with light, space and colour which creates unique visuals for the wearer. This ring is made from 3D-printed nylon and has been hand-dyed. Lynne’s pieces are light, strong and striking and V&A Dundee has recently included Lynne’s work within our permanent Scottish Design Galleries.  This unique ring is available in two sizes: UK O and UK Q.

V&A Dundee earrings £45.00 Tom Pigeon, a Fife-based creative studio founded by Pete and Kirsty Thomas in 2014, has created these hand-crafted earrings exclusively for V&A Dundee. Inspired by Kengo Kuma’s design, and made of solid brass and Formica laminate, the earrings reflect the shapes and colours of the museum and the surrounding landscape.

Ceramic knot necklace £50.00  Beth Lamont is a Scottish jewellery and accessories designer based in Edinburgh. Beth is inspired by the clean form and the feel of ceramics. She uses parian porcelain clay and a slip casting process to create shapes from hand-carved forms. Her handmade jewellery collections bring striking simplicity with little splashes of colour added through rope or glazing.

Accompanying the opening of V&A Dundee, this publication is the first major survey of Scottish design history from around 1500 to the present day. This idea has become the cornerstone of our programme and this publication discusses the origins and history of the project, as well as the future life of the museum. Comprising of a series of conversations with architect Kengo Kuma and V&A Dundee Director Philip Long, the book introduces the reader to what it means to build a 21st century design museum.
Kengo Kuma sketch poster  £5.00 V&A Dundee was designed by award-winning Japanese architects Kengo Kuma & Associates. The extraordinary three-storey building is itself a testament to great design. This sketch of the building was specially commissioned to mark the opening of V&A Dundee.
Kengo Kuma sketch pen £3.00 This pen, from the exclusive Kengo Kuma sketch collection, features the architect’s signature and mimics the angles of the building. Made from a variety of materials, including recycled plastic bottles, and with a replaceable ink cartridge, it has been designed to use, keep and love.
Selkie Seal  £35.00 This smiley seal was created exclusively for V&A Dundee by award-winning Scottish textile designer Donna Wilson. A nod to our aquatic neighbours in the Tay, Donna took inspiration from the seas and seals found up and down the coasts of Scotland.

Seal baby blanket £65.00 Alongside Selkie, Donna also exclusively designed a blanket with the same unique seal design. All of Donna’s creations are handcrafted in the UK, using the softest lambswool.
DC Thomson Classic Comics £5.00 Designed to accompany the opening of the Scottish Design Galleries at V&A Dundee, this exclusive comic book brings together highlights from the DC Thomson Archive in Dundee. It includes favourites such as Beano, The Dandy, The Broons and Oor Wullie.

Mackays V&A Dundee orange marmalade £2.50 In 1797, the first jar of marmalade was produced in Dundee. Mackays, a family business, is now the last remaining producer of Dundee Orange Marmalade in the city. Created to accompany the opening of V&A Dundee, this exclusive jar of marmalade showcases an iconic part of Dundee’s local food history.

Ocean Liner models £50.00 Edward Smith is a Scottish designer who was brought up in a small town on the east coast of Scotland and used his surroundings as inspiration for his artwork and modelmaking. He created his first model boat over 30 years ago as toys for his three young children. Commissioned to collaborate with V&A Dundee and our opening exhibition Ocean Liners: Speed and Style.

RISOTTO blue line T-shirt £17.50 RISOTTO is Scotland’s leading risograph print specialist, and stationery company led by designer Gabriella Marcella. Set up in 2012, RISOTTO produces creative print for a range of clients, from leading arts organisations to bands and brands, quickly and sustainably. This limited edition T-shirt is available to fit years: 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-11.

Kengo Kuma sketch cup £15.00 This cup, from the exclusive Kengo Kuma sketch collection, features the architect’s unique and ambitious V&A Dundee design. The sketch on the cup was specially commissioned to mark the opening of V&A Dundee and highlights drawing as an important part of the design process.

Kaleidoscope £12.00 Commissioned specially for V&A Dundee, Lesley Barnes has designed a new pattern which was inspired by Scottish inventor Sir David Brewster’s kaleidoscope as shown in Scottish Design Galleries. These pieces are a fun way to explore colour and shapes.
