National Concert Hall - April Highlights: Anoushka Shankar, Rose McGowan, Tara Erraught, St Matthew Passion, Connor McKeon

Anoushka Shankar
Saturday 6th April

Multi-Grammy nominated sitar master and composer, Anoushka Shankar returns to the NCH following her near sell-out performance in 2016 to perform the live score to the film Shiraz: A Romance of India, a score she was commissioned to write.

The epic silent film of 1928 is one of the few surviving Indian silent films telling the fictionalised backstory behind India’s most iconic buildings, the Taj Mahal; a story of love and devotion. The newly restored film formed the centrepiece of the British Film Institute’s India on Film programme marking the 70th anniversary of Indian Independence, and the world premiere of Shankar’s score in 2017.

Korngold's Die Tote Stadt with the RTÉ NSO & soprano Celine Byrne

Friday 12th April

Despite its title, Die tote Stadt (‘The Dead City’) is alive with ear-worm tunes, heart-searing romance and unforgettable drama – as you might expect from one of the great Hollywood composers, two-time Oscar winner Erich Wolfgang Korngold.

It also boasts one of the most beautiful arias in all opera and only the hardest of hearts will be able to resist the sublime, siren-like attractions of Marietta’s Lied. The more emotionally susceptible among you have been warned.
