Saint Laurent says....

Saint Laurent says....

The trends taken straight from the Saint Laurent SS18 Runway.

Saint Laurent is everywhere right now. The iconic YSL logo crops up on almost every fashion bloggers instagram or blog or youtube channel. It's not hard to see why everyone is going crazy right now for the label. They showcased their SS18 runway show in a spectacular location (in front of the Eiffel Tower) , and really had possibly one of the best, most versatile collections of last year. From super sassy bohemian princess looks to a more cosmo cocktail vibe. So basically Saint Laurent says, dress like a bohemian Parisienne. and Wear lots of feathers and black, and off white.

Here we have rounded up some of the best looks and also, have our Saint Laurent wish list curated, so that you can see the exact pieces we are lusting after right now. All links are shop-able. Photo credit Vogue.

Haute Couture SS18 - Paris

The most decedent time on the fashion calendar is back. Haute Couture. And here we have a breif rundown of the latest Dior show by Maria Grazia Chiuri.

Before the great Christian Dior turned to fashion, the designer ran an art gallery in the 1930s. Within the gallery, the surrealist artist, Leonor Fini, staged her first exhibition. This artist was the inspiration behind the Dior SS18 Haute Couture collection. Fini believed that one expresses themselves through a mask, which is true. We present ourselves with a front we would like people to see, whether this is the expression we wear on our faces or how we dress ourselves. What represents this even more in modern day society is the use of social media, and our beautifully curated instagram grids, which only half represent our lives. It's what we want people to see. It is a digital mask. Chiuri played homage to this belief with the inclusion of beautiful masks worn  with many of the looks within the show.

The looks were also very representative of the style Chiuri has brought to the fashion house. With stunning lingerie inspired bodices, and beautifully constructed tulle skirts. However there is still the classic Dior 'New Look' vibe underlying the collection. Tailoring of course played and important part within the collection, with the power dressing being broken up with feminine lines and exquisite embroidery that is to be expected of a haute couture collection.

Spring Summer 2018 Collection - Paris Fashion Week

Imagine you are appearing on a BBC costume drama, and forget to take off part of your costume, and casually act as if the piece of ornate 18th century clothing has always been in your wardrobe, and you throw on some comfy sports shorts and trainers to pop down to the shops to get yourself some milk? Picture it? Well you don't really have to, because Nicolas Ghesquière over at Louis Vuitton this season that was just that. Half 18th century nobility dress, half 21st century athleisure. Sounds a tiny bit odd, but I think this is the next big thing.

Set in the Louvre around the original medieval fortress foundations, the set also mixed history with modernity. We had on one hand the well preserved ruins and walls of the fortress, and then a lighted runway, in which models strutted their stuff along in some serious LV sneakers.

Take a look at the looks from the show.

Spring 2018 Collection - Paris Fashion Week

Back to the Grande Palais for yet another monumental Chanel fashion show, courtesy of fashion god Karl Lagerfeld.

On a set embodying Gorges du Verdon, in the South of France, models walked alongside a huge waterfall, over a water pool. Rather fittingly, to go with the water, within the collection there were a lot of waterproofs, in the form of clear plastic accessories. At least if it rains next summer we can keep dry and look good. Also, check out the waterfall fringing on literally everything. Basically dressing up as a waterfall is going to be in next season? No? In all seriousness, the trend vibes we are getting from the collection is Sixties Futurism, in the most Chanel way possible.

For the beauty, they had a very sixties inspired statement eye paired with slightly bronzed cheeks and a orangey red lip and the hair tied back but slicked down at the scalp. (See imagery)

Spring 2018 Collection - Paris Fashion Week

What is the most iconic things that come to mind when you think of Paris?

For us, The Eiffel Tower and Fashion. So what happened at Paris Fashion week this time? Saint Laurent completely topped Chanel's Eiffel Tower inside The Grade Palais set at Haute Couture earlier this year, with a runway smack bang in front of Paris's most iconic landmark (the real one, not a scaled down model).

As for the collection and the pieces themselves, we saw many billowing silhouettes and cinched in waists and of course some typicalSaint Laurent plunging necklines. We love the accessories to this collection, which are very poetic and Parisienne, just check out those feathery over the knee boots. They are surely making it onto our most coveted list for next summer. Interesting, and yet again, dark leather is cropping up in another spring summer collection. So I think it is safe to say, if you invest in leather pieces now, they will still be hot (pun intended, especially in warm weather! Can you just imagine!) next season.
