Key Collections of Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017/18

Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017-2018 was held in June showcasing some of the household names in the fashion world at Milan including Ralph Lauren and Prada – All designers at the Milan Fashion Week had one thing in common, that is they all defied trends. They all went for new cuts, fancy material including fur and blousy baroque prints. So without any further delay let’s explore what these designers had to offer: Ralph Lauren’s Purple Label at Milan Fashion Week: the brand had a pretty much 360 degree approach when it came to suiting men in the most elegant designs while using fabrics that felt light – including silk and linen chambray suits that seemed perfect for both the fashion police as well as the weather.

Another Ralph Lauren outfit featuring the lighter tones from head to toe, making it the perfect ensemble for spring. Ralph Lauren’s tailored blazers and suits in numerous shades of blue: perfect for European gentlemen who are juggling between boardroom meetings and vacations. Marini: SS18 was all about layers. This collection played with colors and patched stripe shirts throughout the showcased outfits. It brought back the 90s accessories in a matter of fact manner as most models were styled in hi- tops. Salvatore Ferragamo: our designer here tried to bring the actual short shorts back into the fashion world and most obviously into our wardrobes as well. Ferragamo’s collection featured camel shades that were paired with contrasting evergreen and ever loved shades of blue. Missoni: Angela Missoni celebrated 20 years of the brand this year. Missoni’s collection featured outfits that were inspired by “the urban gardener” and drew on colors from travel photographer Erwin Fieger’s Japan: Sunrise-Island. The collection was a breath of fresh air with its summery colors and tailored shorts. That’s all folks from Milan Fashion Week for Summer, see you again in soon!

Dior Haute Couture AW17

Les Invalides, Paris

Another spectacle to arise from Paris last week was the Dior Haute Couture AW 17 show, from the house's creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri. The themes for this show were exploration, adventure and curiosity. Therefore the set was very fitting, with plants and wooden animals, with the whole thing replicating a 'fashion jungle' outside one of the historic and stunning Parisienne landmarks. As with most of Chiuri's collections for the house, there was some serious homage paid to the founder, with classic pieces, with a slight current update to them. Overall a collection that brought the fashion house forward, yet still remained true to the classic Dior style. Stand out pieces from the collection was the velvet 'technicolour coat' with a stunning coloured long skirt peeking through the bottom, and the intricately crafted Tarot card coat.
Hair and make-up was kept very minimal and natural, with a messy wavy texture to the hair, pulled back into low ponytails. To shop Dior, click here. To shop Dior Beauty, click here.

Chanel Haute Couture

Paris - Grande Palais

It was haute Couture week in Paris last week, and after a miserable weekend, the sun shone on the fashion capital for the shows. A stand out show, as in many of the past Haute Couture fashion weeks, has to be the Chanel show, brought to us by the fashion god, Karl Lagerfeld. As usual, the Grand Palais provided the space, however, something amazing took place inside. Chanel brought a Parisienne landmark inside the building! Can you guess what it was? The prop of choice for this seasons show was none other than the famous Eiffel Tower. (Boater) Hats off if you guessed it? We will always question, what could they possibly do next, and each year, Lagerfeld delivers something just as spectacular for his catwalks! For the collection itself, in accordance to our earlier hint, boater hats seemed to be all the rage! We also saw a lot of black, which was contrasted by bright embellishments (feather flowers to the necklines, shoulders and hems) and some serious unicorn eye make up. Overall, the collection took the traditional Chanel vibe, and really edged it up. We LOVED it! As per any Chanel show, the audience was celeb clad, with Cara Delevingne and Katy Perry both sporting a platinum colour crop hair cut. Super edgy. See the Chanel collections here. Milan Fashion Week Fall 2017

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2017

Milan stands out among all other fashion capital due to its jammed packed nature with designers and brands that know how to push menswear forward, meanwhile making sure that whatever trends they introduce for the next six months are wearable and tasteful at the same time. Here’s what designers have been up to in Fall/Winter 2017 Milan fashion week:
Giorgio Armani hit off the ramp with his classy suits and contrasting velvet blazers to spin things off a little for the season.
Giorgio Armani being the designer that he is, not giving a damn about the latest fashion trends and designing suits that any man alive could look good in. This piece specifically arranges along fur coat over a tailored suit- keeping style and weather both in line.
For Prada the fashion week translated out as propagating normality among all the ‘asking for attention’ clothing showcased on the ramp. Prada’s collection featured corduroy as the star, in tones reminiscing the 70s that is camel and brown.
Prada showcasing its love for corduroy and fur for the winter in this ensemble. So for the next six months make sure your wardrobe gets inspired by Prada’s subtle corduroy jackets and coats that you can pair with button down shirts and pastel sweaters like this one.
Boglioli by Davide Marello also made waves at the Milan fashion week with their soft shouldered jackets and patterned clothing. Bogioli had been kept a secret for long but thanks to the shakeup in their management they have managed to open their first store in US making its journey in the fashion world to be a longer better one.
Versace this time took inspiration from the tartan clan for their fall/winter collection. Versace used the bold red and black check throughout their collection to appreciate the tartan clan, from hoodies to trousers these shades have been clearly evident for everyone to see. It seems that fall fashion for men is going to be quite fun and interesting!
