The Met Gala 2016

Met Gala 2016 Dresses

On Monday, the rich, famous and beautiful gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC to celebrate the annual Met Gala.  This year the event supported The Costume Institute’s new spring exhibition, Manus X Machina: Fashion in an age of technology. The exhibition explores the creative process and unravels how designers are reconciling the handmade with the machine-made in fashion. There will be over 120 pieces of haute couture and ready-to-wear pieces. The exhibition runs from May 5th to August 16th 2016. Manus X Machina.

As for the Met Gala, stars were dressed in accordance to the exhibition. We’ve picked our top five below.

Kim Kardashian in Balmain. Kim’s dress has a robotic element to it which relates brilliantly to the upcoming exhibition.

Also in a robot-esque dress was Kate Hudson in Versace.

Rita Ora in Vera Wang. The dress featured a, what looks to be metal feathers, transition into actual feathers. Cleverly combining futuristic man made medium with natural texture.

Poppy Delevingne in Marchesa.

Claire Danes in Zac Posen. This dress was even fitted with fibre-optics, so it lit up, and really came to life.

And of course, for a bonus, Zayn Malik could go without a mention. Check out the suit complete with robot arms!
