Dior gets Surreal - SS18 Couture

Dior gets Surreal - SS18 Couture

Haute Couture SS18 - Paris

The most decedent time on the fashion calendar is back. Haute Couture. And here we have a breif rundown of the latest Dior show by Maria Grazia Chiuri.

Before the great Christian Dior turned to fashion, the designer ran an art gallery in the 1930s. Within the gallery, the surrealist artist, Leonor Fini, staged her first exhibition. This artist was the inspiration behind the Dior SS18 Haute Couture collection. Fini believed that one expresses themselves through a mask, which is true. We present ourselves with a front we would like people to see, whether this is the expression we wear on our faces or how we dress ourselves. What represents this even more in modern day society is the use of social media, and our beautifully curated instagram grids, which only half represent our lives. It's what we want people to see. It is a digital mask. Chiuri played homage to this belief with the inclusion of beautiful masks worn  with many of the looks within the show.

The looks were also very representative of the style Chiuri has brought to the fashion house. With stunning lingerie inspired bodices, and beautifully constructed tulle skirts. However there is still the classic Dior 'New Look' vibe underlying the collection. Tailoring of course played and important part within the collection, with the power dressing being broken up with feminine lines and exquisite embroidery that is to be expected of a haute couture collection.

Dior Spring-Summer 2018 Haute Couture Show

Dior Spring-Summer 2018 Haute Couture Show
That's right - the Chriatian Dior Spring-Summer 2018 Haute Couture Collection fashion show will take place on Monday, January 22 2018, at 2.30pm. Fur further details click below. Because haute couture is a dream of fashion. It’s a place where there are no limits to pushing boundaries and experimenting with technique, material and form. Immersing herself in the heart of the Surrealist movement made it possible to bring a fresh breath of imagination to the spring-summer 2018 haute couture collection, conjuring an otherworldliness and constant optical illusion.

Spring 2018 Collection - Paris Fashion Week

Maria Grazia Chiuri does it again with a stunning collection for the house of Christian Dior at Paris Fashion week. Famed for her feminist themes through previous collections, the latest edition is on par with her previous work. We see the return of the slogan tee, which sent high street stores frantically producing "feminist" t-shirts last time around, all thanks to Chiuri.

Steering back towards the collection Spring 2018 collection, the colour palette is mainly blue, similarly to the previous Dior collection shown earlier this year. Perhaps the blue is a result of all the denim used in the collection, so is it safe to say denim will be trending next season? So thats leather AND denim now. Keep a note of these and you're sure to be ahead of the game come next season.

There is also a lot of monochromatic looks which we also saw in the latest Saint Laurent Collection and a racing jumpsuit, similar to the vibes over in New York at the Ralph Lauren show. But if you really are wanting to channel a bit of Chiuri's Dior next season, just think "what would a Parisienne wear" and you'll hit the nail on the head.

Dior Cruise 2017 at Blenheim Palace.

On Tuesday 31st May 2017, Parisian brand Christian Dior showed its newest cruise collection within the library rooms at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, England. Dior is only one of the European luxury brands that are taking up an obsession with England at the moment. The other is Gucci, who will be showing their collection within Westminster Abbey on Thursday.

This year Christian Dior Cruise show marked the third time that Blenheim played host to the designer. In 1958, Yves Saint Laurent showed his Dior collection at the palace and before him in 1954, Christian Dior himself showcased.

Guests of the show included Alexa Chung and Bianca Jagger. Guests were transported to the show via a special Dior train.

The catwalk was hand-painted and showed an english a hunt. This went well with the collection as the general theme was English countryside, but done with a classic Dior "Parisian twist".

Equestrian scenes were knitted into jackets with English country florals.

The collection also featured embellishment, mixed in with the brand’s iconic Bar jacket.

Equestrian silk scarves were also contrasted against leather smock dresses.

The models sported a very dark, statement smokey eye and slicked back hair. Shop Dior Beauty here to get the look.

We are excited to see if Gucci are on the same wavelength as Dior, regarding the nod to equestrian. Gucci originally was an equestrian brand. Ever notice the Gucci horse-bit?
