David Koma
Spring/Summer Collection 2018 - London Fashion Week
Koma’s athletic style collection is nod of appreciation to MMA star Conor McGregor.
The entire collection is an ode to boxing- witness the extensive use of leather which hints at boxing gloves, the pop colour tracksuits as well as the lace up heeled trainers. However, Koma retains the fashion edge through the sculptural factor such as of tailored tracksuits with suggestive poppers trailing up the leg, figure hugging dresses and dynamic frills, inspired by as Koma's very own Kerry Vesper sculpture.
Koma is essentially flirting with sport style and as a result it provides his pieces with an attitude – an empowerment of female strength. He creates a hybrid of sports couture through dynamic cuts crossed with femininity as seen in the lace trousers, the sheer pinstripe patterns and generous dash of flesh. The result is sexy.
Pinstripe and leather are the signature design and material of the pieces as it conveys a strength but also a sex appeal. The leather boxing shorts with frills, hooded lace boxing robe and exposing sports jersey dresses fastened with sparkling beads all amalgamate into a sophisticated collection that whispers- not screams, too cool for that- effortless casual sophistication.
It is what we would imagine Gigi Hadid to throw on before rushing to a Gala Ball after a late night gym session. Who wouldn’t want to look like that?
