Weekend of NYFW 16
Fashion With Melanie
Friday Saturday and Sunday at New York Fashion Week, here’s
a little round up of the best highlights at the weekend.
Firstly, the Tommy Hilfiger show and the revealing of his
most recent collaboration with model Gigi Hadid. The show was opened by the
model herself and was held at Pier 16, which was turned into a carnival,
complete with rides and food stands. Guests in attendance included Olivia
Palermo, Taylor Swift and Doutzen Kroes. The collection was very ‘street stlye’
based, in Gigi’s true personal style.
Alexander Wang also presented a collaboration, with Addidas.
The interesting thing about the collection that all of it’s 84 pieces, are all
unisex.
Other interesting shows included DVF, under new chief creative
officer, Jonathan Saunders, and Rebecca Minkoff, who is alos jumping on the see now, buy now bandwagon.
As for the show goers, Ringlets in their hair seem to be
trending, while big statement earrings seem to be an accessories trend on the
runway for next spring summer.
New York Fashion week highlights
Fashion With Melanie
Now London
Fashion week is well underway, here is Pynck’s quick round up from the first
fashion week in New York.
Firstly, we
had the Kardashian clan (including North) all dressed by Kanye West in custom
Balmain x Yeezy in attendance to his Yeezy show.
Then there
was a surprise guest appearance with Lady Gaga strutting down the Mark Jacobs ‘spooky’
runway.
And babies
on the runway!?! Edun’s creative director, Danielle Sherman, carried her seven
week old baby down the runway and another infant made an appearance on Gypsy
Sports runway.
As for the
model who walked the most show? The award goes to Lia Pavlova, who walked a
total of 23 shows during New York Fashion Week.
In regards
to trends seen over the week, there was a display of many exciting statement
handbags featured in many collections, including ‘dog’ purses at Thom Browne.
(Another) nod to the 90s at Lacoste, Rag and Bone, Victoria Beckham and
Alexander Wang. Ralph Lauren showed a more sixties inspired collection and
Tommy Hilfiger went nautical (with a boat on the runway!). Other trends to be
featured included monochrome along with prints, texture and lots of fur!
