What has Karl Lagerfeld come up with now?
As always, any Chanel runway show is highly anticipated each season for Lagerfeld’s brilliant ideas and creativity. Not just in his collections, but how he presents them on his world famous runways. We have already seen the amazing airport set, the supermarket and a casino, so what did he come up with next.
In contrast
to his simple, no set runway earlier this year for the Chanel Ready to wear
AW16 show, the most recent show, Chanel Haute Couture aw16, showed us a stage
of the atelier.
The Grande Palais was turned into a Chanel work studio, putting his seamstresses centre
stage. This reminds us of who really brings the collections to life. So well
done Karl for giving credit, where credit is due.
As with
Couture, the nature of the fashion has to be hand made in order to deserve the
title. Therefore, it takes many hours to construct such designs. Making it ever
more important to highlight the work that goes into the collections.
So enough
about the set. What was shown on the runway this season. Of course, being
Chanel, there was bounds and bounds of tweed. The inclusion of the tweed pays
great homage to the house’s classic and iconic style, and really reminds us of
what Chanel is so famous for. However, the tweed skirt-suit staple has been
slightly updated. The show presented us with some different proportions. Think
big shoulders, cropped sleeves and flared mini skirts. We also saw dresses
enhanced with feathers as well as many other embellishments.
As for
footwear, I think that it is safe to say that the thigh high boot will be
around for a little longer as we see models strutting with their legs covered
in beautiful, sky high boots.
