Spring 2018 Collection - Paris Fashion Week

Back to the Grande Palais for yet another monumental Chanel fashion show, courtesy of fashion god Karl Lagerfeld.

On a set embodying Gorges du Verdon, in the South of France, models walked alongside a huge waterfall, over a water pool. Rather fittingly, to go with the water, within the collection there were a lot of waterproofs, in the form of clear plastic accessories. At least if it rains next summer we can keep dry and look good. Also, check out the waterfall fringing on literally everything. Basically dressing up as a waterfall is going to be in next season? No? In all seriousness, the trend vibes we are getting from the collection is Sixties Futurism, in the most Chanel way possible.

For the beauty, they had a very sixties inspired statement eye paired with slightly bronzed cheeks and a orangey red lip and the hair tied back but slicked down at the scalp. (See imagery)

What has Karl Lagerfeld done now!? 33rd Chanel Haute Couture AW 16

What has Karl Lagerfeld come up with now?

As always, any Chanel runway show is highly anticipated each season for Lagerfeld’s brilliant ideas and creativity. Not just in his collections, but how he presents them on his world famous runways. We have already seen the amazing airport set, the supermarket and a casino, so what did he come up with next.

In contrast to his simple, no set runway earlier this year for the Chanel Ready to wear AW16 show, the most recent show, Chanel Haute Couture aw16, showed us a stage of the atelier.

The Grande Palais was turned into a Chanel work studio, putting his seamstresses centre stage. This reminds us of who really brings the collections to life. So well done Karl for giving credit, where credit is due.

As with Couture, the nature of the fashion has to be hand made in order to deserve the title. Therefore, it takes many hours to construct such designs. Making it ever more important to highlight the work that goes into the collections.

So enough about the set. What was shown on the runway this season. Of course, being Chanel, there was bounds and bounds of tweed. The inclusion of the tweed pays great homage to the house’s classic and iconic style, and really reminds us of what Chanel is so famous for. However, the tweed skirt-suit staple has been slightly updated. The show presented us with some different proportions. Think big shoulders, cropped sleeves and flared mini skirts. We also saw dresses enhanced with feathers as well as many other embellishments.

As for footwear, I think that it is safe to say that the thigh high boot will be around for a little longer as we see models strutting with their legs covered in beautiful, sky high boots.

Chanel Paris Fashion Week 2016, Willow Smith named Brand Ambassador

Every year the Grand Palais hosts the best creative minds in the planet for Paris Fashion Week. This year the Chanel 2016 collection attended by 3000 all got front row seats. A cream surround lined with golden chairs, took about 9 minutes for the models to complete. The show bought out chanel tweed suits, bowler hats etc. chanel_fall_winter_2016_17_ready_to_wear New solos in old Chanel classics was how Karl Lagerfeld broke away from his usual theatrics.  GettyImages-514289544_t8t2us
Chanel show grand palais also exhibited their new ambassador Singer "Willow Smith". Styling a pierced septum, robed cape, electric-blue Egyptian eyeliner and a catsuit. The decision to make 15 year old daughter of Will Smith the new ambassador wasnt inattentive considering her inherent fashion forward aesthete.

Chanel Couture 2016

More from Paris with last weeks Chanel Haute Couture SS 2016 show.

Star Wars hair, wood embellishments, 'the' dollhouse of the century... Just a few features of the Chanel 2016 Spring/ Summer Haute Couture show held at the Grand Palais in Paris last week.

With a Frow complete with Cara Delevigne, Anna Wintour, Gweneth Paltrow and many more esteemed ‘Frowers’, Lagerfeld once again lived up to expectations providing another spectacle to wow the couture fashion world.

The show opened with Lagerfeld’s male muse, the only male model in the show, and commenced with models striding down the steps to the doll house to the green lawn as the catwalk. Models among the likes of Kendal Jenner and both the Hadid sisters walked in the show.

Of course the collection featured many typical Chanel tweed skirt suits, however this time with the addition of ballooned sleeves which added a modern twist to the classic style. Take a look below for Lagerfeld’s comment on the show.
